Meet Our Trustees

Community Action Since 1972 Round Labels

Chris Kirk

(Chair of Trustees)

Chris has spent most of his working life in public services, including spending over 30 years in the police. Chris started volunteering for Community Action because he could see the charity was making a big difference to the older people in the community. Chris volunteers for the charity in many roles including ambassador and driver and says his reward is seeing the change that can be made in peoples lives with our help and support. Chris is concerned about the longer term issues associated with funding cuts to the voluntary sector and how we can manage this in the future.

Russell Emery

For many years Russell was a Health & Safety Manager and Consultant in the Construction Industry –  he started to drive his car, wheelchair vehicles and the minibuses for Community Action on his retirement in 2015.

He lives in Malvern Link and has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2017. His other  main interest is membership of Malvern Hills Lions Club, of which he is currently President. He has a keen interest in promoting local charities wherever he can.

Alan Turpin

Alan Turpin is a retired Chartered Accountant and became a Trustee and Treasurer of Community Action in 2014. After qualifying with KPMG he had a long career in retail with the GUS group, and later worked in the not-for-profit sector, acting as Finance Director for a number of organisations in the Business Support and Training areas. Alan lives in rural South Worcestershire and is a keen fell walker and cyclist, as well as being a part-time unpaid stable boy.

Mike Amery

Mike retired in 2013 from a career in Human Resources Management in the NHS, and started driving the minibuses and wheelchair cars for CA in 2014. He and his family live in Welland, and he also drives his own car for Upton Community Care. He joined the CA Board of Trustees in 2015, and helped to implement Workplace Pensions for our staff. His other main interests are cycle racing and playing the cello.

Karen Sutton

Mum of two, Karen has worked in Malvern as a dentist since 2001, and noticed how her increasingly infirm clients would struggle to get to their appointments without the help of Malvern Community Action.

She has acted as a trustee for us since 2012 and says she wants to make sure the service is still available for her when she needs it!

She takes part in fundraising for Community Action in the form of running and triathlons and tries her best to keep the charity in the local newspaper. You may also catch her out performing with Morris Team Jenny Pipes Morris in her role as ‘The Fool’ (No comment).

Nick Hubble

After 22 years serving in the Royal Air Force, Nick has held senior management roles in both the public and private sector. He is currently working as a project management consultant supporting clients across the UK. Nick started volunteering as a driver with Community Action in 2017 and now shares responsibility for weekly checks of CA vehicles.

He has lived in Worcestershire for almost 16 years and his other interests include working with the NT at Croome where he is also Chairman of the Defford Airfield Heritage Group.
